CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY
A new home for student well-being
The Snyder Center for Health and Wellness opens.
The Snyder Center for Health and Wellness is now open, offering multiple aspects of wellness under one roof at the heart of campus. Steps away from the Christine E. Lynn University Center, students can access various resources designed to improve and enhance their lives physically, mentally, socially and emotionally, and to help them thrive.

Introducing the Larry and Elaine Smith Athletic Strength and Conditioning Area inside the Snyder Center for Health and Wellness. The new home for all student-athletes at Lynn University.
Well-rounded wellness
The 20,000-square-foot Snyder Center debuted thanks to a generous gift from namesakes Stephen and Jamie Snyder. The center is home to state-of-the-art fitness spaces where students and employees can take fitness to the next level. The opportunities are endless, from working out in the 8,700-square-foot fitness space to participating in active lifestyle classes or endurance training in one of the studios.

Longtime friends and donors Larry and Elaine Smith gifted the cardio and fitness area, as well as a student-athlete strength and conditioning center. The Smiths, who also furnished the locker rooms in Bobby Campbell Stadium and the Count and Countess de Hoernle Sports and Cultural Center, are recognized for their contributions to student fitness and their love for athletics. "We decided we want to give back," said Larry Smith. "I love Lynn because I love the sports and the people who work here."
Those who prioritize nature in their fitness routine can do so effortlessly, thanks to a gift from the Holloway Foundation. The 3,000-square-foot outdoor space where students can work out is perched at the edge of a lake, across from Christine's Park and encircled in lush green lawns. The center's surrounding beauty lends to the overall wellness experience.
"We are thrilled to see students embrace fitness in such a beautiful space," said John Holloway, director of the Holloway Family Foundation. "We're also hopeful that students will be able to easily observe others pursue their fitness goals and be motivated to become more involved."
The center's location makes building healthy habits a practical reality. Students can stroll by the facility daily while going to and from classes, sports and social activities. The convenient location also allows students to participate easily in activities offered by the Student Health and Wellness team.
"We are happy to be in the Snyder Center because students can use all our available services and programming in one place. It is like a one-stop shop for wellness," said Debra Futterman, director of Student Health and Wellness. "Students can partake in our weekly wellness Wednesday events, join campus recreation tournaments on the lawn, head to the fitness center or hang out in the wellness center lobby as they wait for their appointments with Counseling Services or Student Health."

Wellness educators, Gianna Saldivar, Anabella "Bella" Verheyen, Anaisha Desravines and Stephanie Justinville, are responsible for speaking to families and students about wellness and what it means to Lynn University.
Holistic health
Beyond fitness and recreation, the center has a range of resources to help students feel their best. The Student Health team provides students with first aid, general checkups, vaccinations, over-the-counter medications, and specialist and health care referrals. Students can also make appointments to see a nurse practitioner.
The Snyder Center is also a place for support. Counseling Services offers group and individual counseling for students. They also have prevention, education and psychoeducational workshops and outreach programs to help students create and maintain a safer and healthier lifestyle for themselves and others.
"Within this amazing space, students will be able to explore, engage and refine strategies to meet their wellness needs," said Anthony Altieri, vice president of Student Affairs. "Having a facility dedicated to students' well-being is paramount to nurturing skills that accentuate the university experience and establish pathways to lifelong happiness and fulfillment."
The Landgren Chapel is also located in the center, rounding out mind, body and spirit. With the culmination of all the center's resources, students will be able to prioritize their health and wellness, forming a solid foundation for success in all areas of their lives.
"We are eternally grateful to our donors who brought the Snyder Center to fruition," said Gregory J. Malfitano '73, '75, senior major gift officer. "Their generosity will make a difference in the lives of Lynn students for generations to come."
Stephen and Jamie Snyder
Stephen F. Snyder, vice chairman of the Lynn University Board of Trustees, is a longtime friend and generous donor to the university. Stephen and his wife Jamie helped create an atmosphere at Lynn where students and faculty can forge a positive connection between mind, body and spirit. In 2015, they established the Snyder Sanctuary, a spiritual refuge for meditation, music, celebration and dialogue.
Their charitable contributions also extend beyond mental and physical health. The Snyders also supported the Conservatory of Music, the development of the Snyder Idea Lab in the Mohammed Indimi International Business Center and the construction of the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center. Additionally, Stephen and Jamie created the Snyder Scholarship to sponsor students who exhibit academic excellence and superior leadership skills.
