Lynn University remembers Yvonne S. Boice and her impact across campus.

Al Zucaro and the late Yvonne S. Boice

A renowned philanthropist, world traveler and businesswoman, the late Yvonne S. Boice was a champion of culture, the arts, education—and Lynn University. She was committed to fostering cultural awareness in future generations right up to her passing in January 2023.

Boice and her husband, Al Zucaro, founder of World Trade Center Palm Beach, made a generous donation to international learning experiences in late 2022, naming the Boice-Zucaro International Programs & Services office and creating an endowed scholarship. The donation heightens the office's visibility and increases Lynn's ability to support both international students studying in Boca Raton as well as those preparing to study outside of the U.S.

At the office's entrance, a large, high-definition screen highlights upcoming programs and serves as a reminder to visitors and students that Lynn offers far-reaching academic experiences. A second screen recognizes Boice's contributions to the university over the years.

"The flags are a glorious emblem of the university's global diversity while also being a unifying symbol for the sharing of cultural experiences."

A legacy that lives on

Long before her most recent donation, Boice provided Lynn students with life-changing international travel experiences. She created an endowment to provide ongoing maintenance of the iconic Yvonne S. Boice Circle of Flags at the main campus entrance. At the dedication event in 2016, she shared her passion for the many cultures represented at Lynn.

"The flags are a glorious emblem of the university's global diversity while also being a unifying symbol for the sharing of cultural experiences," she said. "Having traveled to 150 countries and visited all seven continents, I understand the importance of fostering cultural awareness in our youth, and I am honored that the Yvonne S. Boice Circle of Flags will continue to represent that mission for years to come."

Boice also funded the Boice Scholarship to support students studying abroad; the Yvonne S. Boice Box Office at the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center; and the Yvonne S. Boice Terrace at the Christine E. Lynn University Center.

Beyond her legacy at Lynn, Boice led national and local fundraising efforts, having been honored with several prestigious awards for her tireless devotion to impactful causes. She received two honorary doctorate degrees, including a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, from Lynn in 2020, and served as chair of the trust that supports the work of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Boice raised millions of dollars for worthy causes and generously supported groups such as the Boca Raton Historical Society, Chris Evert Charities, Palm Beach State College Foundation Inc. and YMCA of South Palm Beach County. She also chaired Palm Beach State College's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) luncheons, the Palm Beach International Film Festival and the Governance Committee of Discover the Palm Beaches. In addition, she served on the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council.

Boice's reputation for generating positive experiences for others are countless. Speaking of Lynn as a prime example, she simply said, "I'm so happy to contribute."
