Lynn's record enrollment gains national attention

Candace Cyanna, class of 2026, visited campus for the first time in April 2022. Now, she’s among approximately 800 first-year students.
Lynn University marked the start of its 2022–23 academic year with the largest class in its 60-year history. More than 1,260 new students began classes Aug. 22, bringing Lynn's total enrollment to nearly 3,500—a far cry from its first class of 96 in 1963.
"We're proud of our team's work to recruit students who believe in what we are doing here at Lynn," said President Kevin M. Ross. "We offer students an opportunity to dream, to discover and to pave their own way to success—and that's why Lynn continues to be a top choice for college-bound students."
The incoming class, which is comprised of 977 undergraduates, 272 graduate students and 13 doctoral candidates, represents 71 countries and 40 U.S. states and territories. Two students from Mumbai traveled the farthest to pursue their degree in Boca Raton—approximately 8,807 miles from their hometown. The top-five declared undergraduate majors are entrepreneurship, psychology, international business management, sports management and biology, and the average high school GPA is 3.29 for first-year students.
While newcomers are finding a home at Lynn, the university also welcomes back 2,276 upperclassmen who have even more opportunities to stay engaged on campus this year. Lynn leadership attributes the university's continued growth and success to its focus on student success.
"As Lynn continues to expand, we are dedicated to providing an innovative, global and personalized education that enables them to reach their potential," said Vice President for Enrollment and University Advancement Gareth Fowles. "We have an unwavering commitment to our students to keep them on track to graduation. We are invested in their futures."

'A focus on students, not their scores'
Lynn’s continued enrollment success caught the attention of Inside Higher Ed, a national, online trade publication that interviewed Fowles on Lynn's success. In the story "A focus on students, not their scores," Fowles shared the importance of getting to know a student, as opposed to only relying only on their test scores, to gain a holistic view of their interests and abilities.
"Lynn's focus is its students and building strong relationships with high school counselors across the country. If we continue doing this and deliver a positive experience that prepares students for their futures, we are confident that we will continue find success," said Fowles.
Christopher D. Miller, director of college counseling at the Sandy Spring Friends School in Maryland, shared Fowles' sentiments with Inside Higher Ed. He said that Lynn gets students "a balanced cross-section of a small liberal arts education and an education that they see as useful and practical. More and more, students want to see that value proposition in their college experience, and Lynn does a great job at communicating what comes out on the other side."
Sharon Bikoundou, associate director of college counseling at the Carrollwood Day School in Florida, agreed: "Lynn is known as a welcoming, supportive place that is quick to adjust its teaching, student life or support in general to help their student body. They have a wonderful staff that responds to counselors and students in a supportive manner."
